The pack's humble beginnings
The #flashdogs originated as an international collective of short fiction writers, often referred to as flash fiction writers, who initially connected through Twitter. Our journey began with a series of weekly flash fiction writing contests. To earn the title of a 'flash dog', one had to be an active participant in these weekly competitions and a regular presence on Twitter. This intense environment was where many of us, including myself, honed our craft and discovered the power of brevity in storytelling.
A community forged in words
The FlashDogs represent an online community of micro-fiction and flash fiction writers, whose "pack" organically formed around 2014. We met through various rapid-fire weekly internet writing contests, including popular events like 'Flash! Friday', 'The Angry Hourglass', and 'Three Line Thursday'. It was within this vibrant and competitive space that I, along with many other #flashdogs, cut my writing teeth. A profound sense of community flourished during these years, as we collectively navigated the challenges and triumphs of flash fiction. Many #flashdogs have since evolved into published authors, a testament to the supportive and inspiring environment we cultivated.
From contests to anthologies
Beyond individual weekly contests, the Flashdogs transitioned into producing collaborative charity anthologies and inspiring daily community prompts, such as #vss365. Our collective published works include Flashdogs: An Anthology, Flashdogs: Solstice: Dark: Volume II, Flashdogs: Solstice: Light: Volume II, and Flashdogs: Time: Volume III. I am proud to have two of my stories featured in the inaugural Flashdogs: An Anthology. These anthologies stand as a lasting legacy of our shared creativity and dedication to the craft of flash fiction.
